Game Recap
The Celtics Won, Our -11.5 Didn't Survive the Night
Boston beat Milwaukee 109-102 at home, but the Celtics didn't cover our -11.5. They won by seven. The pick missed, and we're not going to dress that up.
The case going in looked strong on paper. Boston's offensive efficiency sat at 113.6 against Milwaukee's 106.2. The Celtics had scored 117.0 points per game over their last five, while the Bucks had been giving up 121.8 during a three-game skid. Boston's home offense had averaged 122.75 points, and Paul George was supposed to give Milwaukee a secondary scoring punch. Jayson Tatum being day-to-day was a known risk we accounted for, not a deal-breaker.
What actually showed up was a Celtics team that scored 109, well below both its home average and its recent output. Milwaukee held Boston under its usual production, and the result was a home win, just not the blowout the spread demanded.
The lesson isn't that the stats were fake. A team winning at home by seven is not the same as a team dominating by double digits, and we priced this one like the second outcome. The Celtics won, the spread didn't, and we'll be more careful about how much margin we ask a home team to produce next time.
