The Paddock Report: Heat Survive Clippers by One, Our Heat -5 Ticket Misses
Heat 117, Clippers 116. Miami got the win, and we got the miss. Our Heat -5 pick needed Miami to win by six or more, and a one-point final margin buries that ticket.
The reasoning was not crazy. Miami's offensive efficiency (112.0 vs. 105.1) and scoring edge (118.1 vs. 108.1 PPG) pointed to a comfortable night, and the Clippers' 0-5 slide with three rotation players out looked like a team headed for a blowout. Instead, Los Angeles stayed within reach and Miami had to hold on through the final whistle. The favorite won, but not by the margin we needed.
Credit where it's due. A one-possession game is exactly the kind of result that makes a spread bettor sweat, and this one went the wrong way for us. Our own record on away-side spreads was already a warning sign, and we talked ourselves past it. The lesson: a talent gap on paper does not guarantee a cover, especially when a short-handed team refuses to fold.
Heat win, number missed, and we own it. Next slate, we're back to chasing edges, not just favorites.
