The Paddock Report: Lakers 124, Blazers 118, and the cover came through with room to spare
Lakers 124, Trail Blazers 118. Our Lakers -2.5 pick hit by 3.5 points, and we'll take it.
The logic going in was that Portland was walking in with its depth gutted. Ja Morant (hamstring, announced Friday) and Vit Krejci (leg fracture Wednesday) were both newly out, on top of Shaedon Sharpe's long-term absence. A short number implied the market saw these teams as close to even on a neutral floor. We figured the Lakers' efficiency edge, 51.2 FG% and 120.4 offensive rating against Portland's 47.6 and 118.5, would be enough to clear the line at home.
It was, by six. The Lakers scored 124, below the 130.0 points per game they average at home, so this wasn't a blowout-level offensive night. But it was enough, and the final margin is what settles the ticket. Portland's 118 doesn't scream rotation collapse either, which means the Blazers stayed competitive despite the absences.
What the final score can't tell us is how much the missing Blazers shaped the flow of the game. Play-by-play and minutes distribution will answer that, and until we see them, the honest read is that the thesis held on the scoreboard. Luka Doncic's 38.5 PPG season average was the other pillar of the pick, and a home win by six fits that profile, though we aren't claiming a specific line from him tonight.
Bottom line: the fresh-depth edge was real enough, the number was right, and the Lakers covered. Don't get cocky, Stable. Just take the win and move on to the next slate.
