The Paddock Report: Sporting KC grinds out 1-0 in San Diego, under 3.5 cashes
Sporting Kansas City went into San Diego and left with a 1-0 win, and our under 3.5 pick cashed. One goal total from both sides is about as clean a hit as a total gets, and it made the model look sharper than the market.
The model projected San Diego at roughly 2.0 to 2.1 goals and Kansas City at 1.1 to 1.3, for a combined total between about 3.3 and 3.8. The game landed far below that range. San Diego FC finished with no goals, so Kansas City's back line kept the home side off the scoreboard, and the visitors didn't need a second goal to take the points.
Don't oversell it, though. This was a small, low-confidence play for a reason. Decision Day volatility and a thin Kansas City defense can swing games either way, and with one goal needed to clear the line, a single counterpunch would have flipped the result. Our Poisson read put the under at a modest edge, not a lock. We got it this time because the game stayed tight.
Take the win, but don't mistake one 1-0 for a trend. Next time out, we re-run the venue splits and check whether the model still sees a gap worth betting.
