Thunder Get Steamrolled in Dallas, But the Under Still Cashes
The Mavericks absolutely dismantled Oklahoma City 120-96 on Friday night, turning what looked like a defensive slugfest on paper into a one-sided beatdown. Dallas shot the lights out while the shorthanded Thunder limped through another game without Holmgren, Caruso, and Jalen Williams—and it showed in the worst way possible.
Here's the thing though: DarkHorse's under 228.5 still cashed comfortably, landing at 216 total points. The handicap wasn't wrong about Oklahoma City's offensive limitations—they managed a pathetic 96 points, well below their season average. What the pick didn't account for was Dallas finding their groove at home after early-season struggles, posting 120 in what became garbage time territory by the third quarter.
The Thunder's vaunted defense got torched, but their depleted offense was the real story. Missing three rotation players who handle significant shot creation left OKC looking completely lost on that end. They couldn't generate quality looks, couldn't get to the line, couldn't do much of anything against a Mavericks squad that controlled tempo from the opening tip.
Bottom line: Thunder got embarrassed, but the math worked. Sometimes you win ugly in this business, and a 12-point cushion on the under qualifies as exactly that.
