Oklahoma City sits atop the efficiency mountain with a staggering plus-10.9 net rating, combining elite offense (117.0) with suffocating defense (106.0). The Thunder aren't just good—they're lapping the field. San Antonio's plus-8.2 and Detroit's plus-8.0 marks deserve respect, but neither pairs both ends like OKC. The Spurs are scoring at 117.5 but giving up 109.4; the Pistons boast a ridiculous 107.3 defensive rating but lack the offensive firepower. Thunder have both cylinders firing.

Boston's plus-7.9 net rating (117.9 offense, 110.0 defense) and New York's plus-6.4 (117.8/111.4) confirm the Eastern powers are locked and loaded. Denver's plus-5.1 looks pedestrian until you notice they're scoring at 120.2 per hundred—nobody's close. Houston at plus-5.2 with a 110.7 defensive rating is your sneaky West darkhorse.

Now the bad news: Washington's minus-11.5 net rating screams tank job, surrendering 120.2 points per hundred possessions. Brooklyn at minus-10.1 and Sacramento at minus-9.9 aren't far behind. The Nets can't score (106.6 offensive rating) or stop anyone (116.7). The Kings are somehow worse on both ends.

Milwaukee's minus-6.2 should alarm anyone who penciled them in as contenders—that 117.5 defensive rating is borderline catastrophic for a supposed playoff team. Utah's minus-8.0 with a 119.8 defensive rating confirms they're playing for ping pong balls.

Early money should ride Thunder, Celtics, and Spurs. Fade the Bucks until that defense proves otherwise. The numbers don't lie—even when the standings do.
