Tigers Cruise Past Rockies as DarkHorse Spread Pick Crumbles

MLB

Detroit made it look easy at Comerica Park, dismantling Colorado 6-2 and turning our Rockies +1.5 wager into confetti. So much for that "stay competitive" narrative—the Tigers covered the -1.5 with room to spare, and our faith in Mason Adams' strikeout upside was wildly misplaced.

The reasoning looked solid on paper: compromised bullpen depth, Framber Valdez's pedestrian 4.17 ERA, historical cover rates for Colorado as road dogs. Problem is, none of that mattered when Detroit's offense actually showed up and Adams couldn't keep runners off base. We banked on the Rockies' recent run differential suggesting tight games, but this one was decided early and never in doubt. Detroit didn't need elite pitching—they just needed Colorado to play like a team on the second night of a back-to-back at sea level.

The bullpen concerns we highlighted? Irrelevant when you're sitting on a comfortable four-run cushion. The 60% historical cover rate? Useless when you're getting beaten wire-to-wire. We got the matchup analysis right and the outcome completely wrong. That's baseball—and that's a loss. The Tigers were the better team tonight, full stop, and the spread wasn't even close. On to the next card.
