Tigers Get Royaled Despite Waguespack's Supposed Edge

MLB

So much for that "massive pitching advantage." The Royals torched the Tigers 11-7 at Kauffman Stadium, extending their win streak to seven and sending DarkHorse's -115 Tigers pick straight to the glue factory. Jacob Waguespack and his sparkling 1.95 ERA? Turns out those numbers don't mean squat when Kansas City's bats are locked in. The Royals hung crooked numbers on Detroit's supposedly superior pitching staff, proving once again that hot teams at home are dangerous regardless of what the spreadsheet says.

Detroit actually showed up offensively with seven runs, but their pitching—the entire reason we backed them—collapsed when it mattered. Daniel Lynch IV, the guy we were supposed to fade because of his 2.83 ERA, got enough run support to cruise. The Royals improved to 8-2 at home and made it seven straight wins, while the Tigers' vaunted 3.56 team ERA looked more like a typo than a trend.

The math said 54% win probability. The scoreboard said 11-7. Sometimes the hot hand beats the better resume, and Kansas City's lineup just refused to read the scouting report. Tough loss, but that's baseball—even when the pitching matchup screams value, you still need nine innings of execution.
