Tigers Limp Into Pittsburgh, Drop 4-1 Snoozer to Pirates

MLB

The Tigers rolled into PNC Park and promptly forgot how to hit, dropping a lifeless 4-1 decision to the Pirates in a game that felt longer than it was. Pittsburgh didn't need fireworks—just enough timely hitting and competent pitching to send Detroit packing.

The Pirates built their cushion methodically, scratching across runs while the Tigers' offense sputtered like a '92 Oldsmobile. Detroit managed just one run, and it felt like a mercy tally in what was otherwise a thoroughly uninspiring performance at the plate. Pittsburgh's pitching staff kept Tigers hitters off-balance all night, and frankly, it didn't look difficult.

This wasn't a statement win for Pittsburgh—more like the Pirates showed up and the Tigers simply didn't. When you score one run on the road, you're not giving your pitching staff much margin for error, and predictably, there wasn't any magic to be found.

DarkHorse didn't publish a pick here, which in hindsight feels wise. This game had all the drama of watching paint dry in the outfield bleachers. The Tigers need to find some life at the plate before their next series, because performances like this won't cut it against anyone with a pulse. Pittsburgh takes it 4-1 and sends Detroit home wondering where the bats went.
