Tigers Outlast White Sox in Slugfest, 11-8

MLB

The Tigers rolled into Chicago and turned Guaranteed Rate Field into a batting cage, hanging 11 runs on the White Sox in an 11-8 slugfest that had all the defensive discipline of a beer league softball game. Detroit's bats stayed hot all night, piling up enough runs to withstand a late Chicago rally that made things interesting but ultimately fell short.

The White Sox offense showed signs of life—eight runs is nothing to sneeze at—but their pitching staff got absolutely shelled when it mattered most. You can't spot a team like Detroit that kind of cushion and expect to claw all the way back, especially when your bullpen treats strike zones like suggestions rather than requirements.

Detroit's lineup did damage up and down the order, manufacturing runs in multiple innings and never letting Chicago's pitchers settle in. The White Sox made it respectable late, but respectable losses still count the same in the standings.

We didn't have a pick on this one, which is probably just as well—games like this are coin flips dressed up as baseball. The Tigers got the runs when they needed them, the White Sox didn't, and that's your ballgame. Detroit heads home with a win, Chicago heads back to the drawing board. Again.
