Tigers Stumble in Seattle as Mariners Take 4-2 Victory

MLB

The Mariners protected home turf Tuesday night, sending the Tigers packing with a 4-2 defeat at T-Mobile Park. Seattle did just enough to keep Detroit's bats quiet when it mattered most, and that's all you need in a pitcher's duel.

Detroit showed some early fight but couldn't sustain any real offensive momentum against Seattle's staff. The Tigers managed just two runs on the scoreboard, a performance that won't cut it in a tight ballgame when your opponent is finding ways to manufacture runs. Seattle's four-spot wasn't overwhelming, but it was efficient—they capitalized on their chances and made Detroit chase the game.

The Mariners' pitching staff deserves credit for keeping the Tigers' lineup in check through the middle innings, and their defense backed it up when needed. Detroit had their moments, but leaving runners stranded became the theme of the night. You can't win games when you're not cashing in on scoring opportunities, and the Tigers left too many on the basepaths.

Seattle moves on with a solid home win. Detroit heads out of the Pacific Northwest needing to find more consistency at the plate. Sometimes baseball is simple: score more than the other guy. The Tigers didn't.
