Ureña's "Elite" Edge Vanishes as Astros Snatch 6-4 Road Win in Anaheim

MLB

The Angels squandered a golden pitching matchup and sent DarkHorse backers home empty-handed in a 6-4 loss to Houston. So much for that 2.81 ERA advantage mattering when the game's actually played.

Walbert Ureña's sub-3.00 ERA looked pristine on paper, but the Astros didn't get the memo about being intimidated. Houston's offense did exactly what dangerous lineups do—they capitalized when it counted, scratching across six runs against an Angels pitching staff that couldn't slam the door. Meanwhile, Tatsuya Imai's ugly 5.59 ERA suggested the Angels would feast, yet they managed just four runs despite the supposed mismatch.

The market set this near even-money at Angels -102, essentially a coin flip with home field as the tiebreaker. Turns out the oddsmakers knew something the spreadsheet didn't: starting pitcher differentials mean nothing if your offense can't finish. Yordan Alvarez and company reminded everyone why Houston remains a road threat regardless of ERA splits.

DarkHorse's pick MISSED because baseball refuses to be played in a vacuum. The Angels had every theoretical edge—home crowd, superior starter, favorable pricing—and still couldn't execute when the lights came on. Sometimes the better story loses to the better team. Houston 6, Anaheim 4, and another lesson in why ERA advantages don't cash tickets alone.
