Week 6 Power Rankings: Three Undefeateds, But Only Two Elite Offenses
Six weeks in, and we've got three unblemished records atop the league—but let's be clear about the hierarchy here. San Francisco and Kansas City are scoring like championship contenders, posting 30.8 and 29.5 points per game respectively. Minnesota? They're 5-0 on grit and defense, limping to just 21.8 PPG. The Vikings are winning ugly, and ugly doesn't cash tickets in January.
Buffalo sits one game back at 5-1, but here's the kicker: they're the league's most explosive offense at 32.8 PPG, matching Detroit's output despite three fewer wins. The Bills are a better team than their record, and frankly, a better bet than Minnesota right now.
The middle class is a mess. Seven teams sit at 4-2, and the spread is wild—Baltimore's 29.2 PPG offense looks nothing like Cleveland's anemic 18.6. The Ravens are a contender masquerading as a wildcard. The Browns are a wildcard masquerading as a contender.
Detroit and Carolina are your classic "better than their record" squads. The Lions are averaging 32.8 PPG—tied for the league lead—yet sitting at 3-2. The Panthers are putting up 30.2 per game and somehow only 3-2. Both are getting unlucky, and regression to the mean favors them heavily.
At the bottom, the Chargers and Dolphins are winless, but Miami's 14.0 PPG is genuinely historically bad territory. The Titans aren't much better at 11.6—these aren't just bad teams, they're offensively incompetent.
The sharp money this week? Fade Minnesota's perfect record, back Buffalo and Detroit as value plays, and keep riding San Francisco and Kansas City until someone proves they can stop either offense. Baltimore's quietly elite and being disrespected at 4-2. As for the Vikings? They're undefeated until they're not—and that day is coming soon.
