White Sox Blow Late Lead as Red Sox Rally for Wild 12-11 Walk-Off Win

MLB

The Red Sox turned Fenway into a circus tent Tuesday night, clawing back from certain doom to steal a 12-11 thriller from the White Sox in what can only be described as a bullpen meltdown for the ages. Chicago looked untouchable through seven innings, staking themselves to what felt like a comfortable lead, only to watch their relief corps spontaneously combust when it mattered most.

The White Sox offense did its job—11 runs should win you most ballgames, especially when you're holding a lead late. But baseball has a cruel sense of humor, and Boston's lineup refused to read the script. The Red Sox chipped away, then detonated in the late innings, turning this one into a slugfest that had South Siders checking their blood pressure.

Chicago's bullpen couldn't find the strike zone with GPS, walking in runs and serving up meatballs like a Little League barbecue. Meanwhile, Boston's bats stayed hot when it counted, manufacturing just enough chaos to flip the scoreboard in their favor. The walk-off finish sent Fenway into hysterics while the White Sox trudged off wondering how they let this one slip through their fingers.

Tough pill to swallow for Chicago. Sometimes you do everything right and still lose—that's baseball, Suzyn.
