White Sox Bludgeon Rangers 11-7, DeGrom Edge Evaporates in South Side Slugfest

MLB

So much for the Jacob deGrom advantage. The Rangers limped out of Chicago with an 11-7 loss, turning our -120 fade of the White Sox into expensive confetti. DeGrom's supposed ERA and strikeout superiority? Didn't matter. Anthony Kay and the Chicago bats made Texas pitching look like batting practice, hanging 11 runs on a staff that was supposed to ride momentum from a three-game win streak.

The final score tells the story: this wasn't close. The White Sox — coming off an 11-2 drubbing just yesterday — clearly had no interest in back-to-back humiliation at home. They answered Texas run-for-run early, then pulled away as Rangers pitching crumbled. Chicago's offense, which we perhaps underrated given their 2-3 recent slide, found every gap and then some.

DeGrom's 11.16 K/9 rate looked great on paper. On the field? The White Sox made him mortal. Kay's modest 7.35 strikeout rate didn't need to be elite when his lineup was teeing off. Momentum is a fickle mistress, and Texas learned that the hard way in a South Side environment that wasn't having any more losing.

The pick missed because we leaned too hard on starting pitcher metrics and recent form while ignoring the White Sox' ability to explode offensively at home after a blowout loss. Lesson learned — or at least expensive tuition paid.
