White Sox Pitching Edge? Burke and DarkHorse Both Get Torched in South Side Blowout

MLB

Well, that Sean Burke ERA advantage looked great on paper—right up until the Pirates hung nine runs on the South Side and sent our White Sox pick straight to the shredder. DarkHorse backed Chicago at -150, banking on Burke's 3.20 ERA and supposed dominance to overcome Pittsburgh's hot bats. Spoiler alert: it didn't.

The Pirates made Burke look pedestrian, if he even lasted long enough to earn that description, while Bubba Chandler—the guy with the "inferior" 4.30 ERA—did enough to keep Chicago's anemic offense in check. Final score: Pirates 9, White Sox 3, and it wasn't as close as that sounds.

Pittsburgh's 7-3 recent form wasn't just a cute stat; it was a warning sign we should've heeded. Their bats stayed scorching while the White Sox lineup, hitting a paltry .237 as a team, did exactly what bad offenses do—disappear when it mattered. Three runs at home won't cut it, no matter who's on the mound.

The kicker? We leaned hard into that 1.10 ERA gap and "elite starting pitching" narrative, only to watch Burke get shelled. Sometimes the numbers lie, and sometimes a hot team just keeps rolling. Pittsburgh proved the latter, and our -150 investment proved worthless. Tough miss, but that's baseball—and that's why we keep swinging.
