White Sox Ride Burke's Arm and Timely Hitting to Cover in Detroit

MLB

The White Sox made DarkHorse look smart in Motown, taking down the Tigers 7-5 behind exactly what we projected: a pitching mismatch and offensive firepower. Sean Burke delivered his latest gem, holding Detroit's inconsistent bats in check through six-plus innings and validating that elite 2.99 ERA. Meanwhile, Drew Anderson gave the Tigers exactly what his 3.91 ERA promised—mediocrity with occasional leaks.

Chicago's lineup depth proved decisive. The heart of the order—Murakami, Vargas, Meidroth, Antonacci—combined to do damage against Anderson and Detroit's bullpen, building enough cushion to survive a late Tigers rally. The White Sox jumped ahead early and never trailed, controlling tempo the way road favorites should when they own the mound advantage.

Detroit's offense showed flashes of the recent scoring surge that padded their stats, plating five runs to keep it respectable. But that .243 team average and sub-.720 OPS caught up when it mattered—too many runners stranded, not enough clutch two-out knocks. The 54 percent home-field baseline wasn't nearly enough to overcome Chicago's superior starting pitching and deeper lineup.

The White Sox improve to 5-3 in the season series and cash our moneyline ticket with authority. Sometimes the sharp play is the obvious play, and Burke versus Anderson was exactly that.
