So much for goaltending being a wash — whoever Dallas trotted out between the pipes slammed the door, and Minnesota's unsettled crease situation proved every bit as problematic as feared, just in the worst possible direction for us.

The final score doesn't lie: Dallas controlled this one wire-to-wire, potting two goals and never allowing the Wild a sniff. Minnesota's offense, which we pegged as roughly equivalent to the Stars' based on last season's scoring rates, was completely neutralized. Zero goals means zero chance to cover, and that -1.5 line that looked so juicy at +1.5 odds turned into fool's gold the moment the second puck crossed the goal line.

Our reasoning wasn't wrong on paper — favorites do cover the puck line under 50% of the time, and there was no glaring talent gap. But hockey's a game of execution, not spreadsheets, and Dallas executed while Minnesota sputtered. Sometimes the math gets run over by reality, and tonight reality wore victory green.
