Wild Fall Short in Buffalo, Puckline Dreams Die in One-Goal Heartbreaker
So much for blowout potential. The Wild dropped a 3-2 decision in Buffalo, and that +200 puckline ticket we were clutching? Crumpled up and tossed before the third period even ended. Minnesota needed to win by two to cash Wild -1.5; instead, they couldn't even win by one.
The math looked gorgeous on paper—Wild's 1.0 GAA fortress versus Buffalo's leaky 4.5 GAA sieve—but hockey doesn't care about your spreadsheets. The Sabres tightened up defensively when it mattered, and whatever goaltending concerns we had about Colten Ellis evaporated as he did just enough to keep Buffalo ahead. Meanwhile, Minnesota's vaunted defensive identity couldn't manufacture the offensive explosion we needed. Two goals? That's not exploiting anybody's struggles; that's getting stonewalled.
Credit where it's due: Buffalo protected home ice and didn't collapse into the mess their early metrics suggested. But for DarkHorse backers, this one stings. We chased value on a team that couldn't separate, banking on a gap that never materialized. The Wild are still a solid squad at 2-1, but tonight they were one goal short of winning and two goals short of making us any money. Tough scene.
