Wild Survive Scare, Wallstedt Delivers as Advertised

NHL

The Wild squeaked past Columbus 2-1 at Xcel Energy Center, and while it wasn't pretty, the fundamentals held exactly as projected. Jesper Wallstedt was the difference-maker we flagged at -185, stonewalling a tired Blue Jackets squad that limped in on zero days' rest. The rookie netminder didn't need to be spectacular—just competent—and that was miles ahead of what Columbus has been getting from Cam Talbot's train wreck between the pipes.

Minnesota's offense sputtered compared to their 4.33 goals-per-game home average, managing just two tallies, but against a back-to-back opponent running on fumes, that was enough. Columbus showed some grit keeping it close, but you can't win in this league when your goalie is leaking oil at an .822 clip and your legs are cooked from the night before. The Jackets' lone goal was window dressing; Wallstedt locked it down when it mattered.

The pick hit because the math was always simple: elite goaltending plus home ice plus schedule advantage equals cash. Minnesota is now 4-0 at home, and Wallstedt continues to prove he's not just hype. Columbus? Still searching for answers in net and on the road, where they've now dropped to 0-2 with nothing but misery to show for it.
