Yankees Edge Braves 5-4 as Cole Outduels Sale in Bronx Thriller

MLB

Well, that stings. The Yankees squeaked past Atlanta 5-4 at home, and our Chris Sale coronation turned into a Bronx roast. We hammered the Braves ML at -134, banking on Sale's elite 2.08 ERA and that gorgeous 1.34 ERA gap over Gerrit Cole to carry the day. On paper, it was a no-brainer—Sale's strikeout stuff versus Cole's merely solid numbers, plus Atlanta's better lineup metrics. In reality? Baseball happened.

The final score tells you everything about how razor-thin these margins get. Sale probably pitched well enough to win most nights, but the Yankees manufactured just enough offense at home to flip the script. That 3-4 road record we noted in passing? Turns out it mattered. Cole, despite the inferior peripherals, did what aces do in the Bronx—he gave his lineup a chance, and they cashed in with five runs. Atlanta's vaunted offense managed four, which is respectable but not enough when you're spotting the home nine a late lead.

Moral of the story: pitching edges mean nothing if your bats don't show up on the road. We missed. Tip your cap to Cole and move on—plenty of games left to fade the Yankees when they're actually overvalued.
