Yankees Edge Orioles 5-3 as Warren Outduels Returning Bassitt

MLB

The Yankees took care of business in Baltimore, riding a 5-3 victory that validated every word of our pre-game breakdown. Will Warren didn't dazzle, but he did exactly what we needed—outpitched Chris Bassitt and gave the Bronx bullpen enough runway to seal the deal.

Bassitt's return from injury went about as well as his season ERA suggested it would. The veteran right-hander labored through five frames, surrendering four earned runs while the Yankees lineup exploited his diminished strikeout stuff. Warren wasn't perfect either, but competence beats mediocrity every time, and that starter differential we harped on proved decisive.

New York's bullpen—boasting that pristine 3.26 team ERA we cited—slammed the door over the final four innings, allowing just one run while Baltimore's order flailed against superior arms. The Orioles managed three runs total, well below what you need when your starter spots the opposition a four-run cushion.

Our Yankees -120 cashed comfortably, hitting exactly as projected. The 54.5% implied probability always undersold New York's true edge, and the final score reflected what the underlying metrics screamed all along: pitching depth wins ballgames. Sometimes handicapping is this simple—back the better arms, collect your winnings, and move on to the next card.
