Yankees Faceplant in Anaheim as Angels Erupt for 10-Run Beatdown

MLB

Well, that was ugly. The Yankees stumbled into Angel Stadium laying -145 and promptly got their teeth kicked in, 10-1. So much for that "depleted Angels lineup" narrative—turns out missing Trout, O'Hoppe, and Rendon doesn't matter when you're facing a Yankees squad that forgot how to hit.

Elmer Rodríguez, he of the 4.70 ERA and 1.52 WHIP, was supposed to be the weak link. Instead, it was Walbert Ureña who got shelled, surrendering runs in bunches as the Angels' supposedly anemic offense—averaging 3.2 runs over their last five—suddenly remembered how to swing the lumber. The home team hung a crooked number early and never looked back, turning this one into a laugher by the fifth inning.

The Yankees managed exactly one run. One. Against a team that had lost eight straight and looked DOA at home. New York's vaunted 3.21 team ERA? Irrelevant when your bats go silent and your starter serves up batting practice fastballs.

DarkHorse's pick missed spectacularly. The logic was sound—back the better team with superior form and pitching against a freefall squad—but baseball doesn't care about your spreadsheets. Sometimes the dog bites back, and tonight the Angels mauled us. Chalk it up and move on.
