Yankees Pitching Shuts Down Hot Blue Jays Bats in 3-1 Victory

MLB

So much for that red-hot Toronto offense. The Blue Jays limped into the Bronx averaging 5.6 runs over their last five games and promptly face-planted against Cam Schlittler and the Yankees' pitching staff, falling 3-1 in a game that was never really close.

Our handicap leaned heavily on Toronto's recent offensive surge—Kirk, Daz Cameron, and Clement were supposed to exploit a depleted Yankees lineup missing Judge, Stanton, and Bellinger. Instead, the Blue Jays managed one measly run while New York's skeleton crew scraped together just enough against Mason Fluharty to build a cushion. The +1.5 never had a pulse.

Schlittler was exactly as advertised—elite stuff, minimal baserunners—but the real story was Toronto's bats going ice-cold at the worst possible time. When you're banking on an underdog cover, you need the offense to show up. They didn't. The Yankees didn't need their stars; they just needed competent at-bats and lockdown pitching, and they got both.

The historical edge on +1.5 underdogs in even season series? Irrelevant when your team forgets how to hit. Fluharty wasn't terrible, but he wasn't good enough to keep this within striking distance. Sometimes the hot streak ends precisely when you need it most. That's baseball, and that's a missed pick.
