Yankees Roll Past Blue Jays 8-3 as DarkHorse Backs Another Winner

MLB

The Yankees made our -140 price look generous, dismantling Toronto 8-3 at the Stadium and handing The Stable another cash ticket. Carlos Rodón didn't need to be brilliant—he just needed to be better than José Soriano, and that bar was set on the floor. Soriano's strikeout rate screamed trouble all week, and sure enough, the Yankees lineup feasted on a guy who can't miss bats. New York plated runs early and often, turning this into a laugher by the middle innings.

Our original reasoning centered on Rodón's ERA edge and the Yankees' superior team pitching, but honestly, Toronto's offense never showed up. That vaunted 5.5 runs per game on the road? Invisible. Three runs won't cut it against a Bronx staff that entered with a 3.20 ERA, and it certainly won't cut it when your starter can't put hitters away. The Yankees' bats did the rest, piling on insurance runs that made the final margin look comfortable because it was comfortable.

We called the value at 58.3% implied probability, and the Yankees delivered like a team that knew it was supposed to win. Soriano's WHIP and lack of swing-and-miss stuff were red flags we waved loudly. The market gave us a gift, and we cashed it. On to the next one.
