Yankees Squeak By in Pitcher's Duel, Red Sox +1.5 Cashes Easy

MLB

The Yankees took this one 1-0 in a defensive slugfest that validated every word of our Red Sox +1.5 call. Cam Schlittler was every bit the ace his 2.16 ERA promised, but Patrick Sandoval—supposedly the weak link with his bloated 1.76 WHIP—showed up when it mattered and kept Boston within striking distance all night. The final margin? Exactly what we projected: a one-run game that never threatened to become the two-run blowout the run line demanded.

New York's patchwork lineup, missing Judge, Stanton, and Volpe, couldn't muster the firepower to separate despite facing a hittable starter. Boston's bats went quiet—Contreras, Abreu, and Rafaela combined couldn't crack the scoreboard—but that's baseball in the Bronx sometimes. The point is this: we didn't need the Red Sox to win. We needed them not to lose by two, and they delivered in spades.

The Yankees' season-long inability to consistently blow teams out (+1.2 run differential over their last 15) played out exactly as forecasted. Schlittler dominated, sure, but one run is one run. Our +1.5 cashed comfortably, and anyone who laid -1.5 with this depleted Yankee roster learned an expensive lesson about the difference between winning and covering.
