Steelers Host Falcons in Week 1 Backup QB Disaster Class

Welcome to the NFL's most uninspiring Week 1 opener. Pittsburgh rolls out rookie Drew Allar for his first professional snap, while Atlanta counters with Cooper Rush — yes, that Cooper Rush — who's nursing back spasms and wasn't even supposed to be here after both Michael Penix Jr. and Tua Tagovailoa hit the injury list. This is appointment viewing only if you're a masochist or a defensive coordinator.

Last season's numbers suggested a mid-40s total: Pittsburgh averaged 23.4 points scored and 22.8 allowed, Atlanta 20.8 and 23.6. But those figures mean nothing when you're trotting out a rookie making his debut and a journeyman who can barely bend over to take the snap. Week 1 offense is already sloppy with starters who've had full camps together. With these two under center? Expect three-and-outs, conservative play-calling, and plenty of punts.

The Steelers' defense will feast on Rush's limited mobility and Atlanta's patchwork protection. Meanwhile, Allar will get the full Mike Tomlin safety-blanket treatment — short passes, heavy run game, nothing that risks turnovers.

DarkHorse likes the under 41 here, and it's hard to argue. This one stays ugly, stays low-scoring, and makes everyone question why they spent September Sunday watching backup quarterback roulette.
